Objective of Work Package : This WP integrates the ecological ceiling investigated in WP1 with the social inequalities and social foundation identified in WP2 to develop concrete solutions for healthier, more sustainable and fairer urban food systems. Through interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary collaboration, WP3 will co-create transformative interventions with societal stakeholders, develop realistic policy approaches and explore opportunities for transferring and scaling promising initiatives.
Methodology : WP3 will use a transdisciplinary co-creation approach to combine scientific evidence from WP1 and WP2 with stakeholder knowledge and practical experience. A total of 12 multi-stakeholder workshops, six in each city, and scoping sessions will facilitate interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary collaboration between researchers, policymakers, local governments, businesses, civil society organisations and low-income communities (T3.1). The co-creation process will take place in two phases. In Phase 1, project teams and stakeholders will co-design the workshop programmes, identify key challenges and support data gathering, case-study planning and the development of scenarios. Building on these activities, WP3 will co-design a research framework for transformative interventions, integrating the ecological ceiling from WP1 with the social-foundation dimensions identified in WP2 (T3.2). Potential interventions will include urban planning and food-environment strategies, supported by model simulations from WP1. In Phase 2, stakeholders will discuss and validate the project’s main results and proposed solutions, helping identify opportunities for transferring and scaling promising initiatives. Finally, WP3 will translate these findings into a transdisciplinary policy approach for sustainable, healthy and fair urban food environments (T3.3). Comparison with selected urban areas in China will support cross-contextual learning and help refine the resulting policy recommendations.
Output : A co-created research framework and policy toolbox for transformative urban food-system interventions, supported by multi-stakeholder workshops, policy briefs and public communication, providing practical strategies for developing and scaling sustainable, healthy and equitable urban food systems.
